Students can now sign up for Spotify Premium for Students and get Showtime as part of the deal, with new users getting all three services for just $1 a month for the first three months, a price that automatically converts to $5 per month thereafter. The best part? The price is still $5 per month. The popular premium cable company is now part of the Spotify Premium for Students lineup. Now, there is another company joining Spotify and Hulu in capitalizing upon college kids’ penchant for procrastination: Showtime. Last year, Spotify and Hulu announced a partnership called Spotify Premium for Students that offers premium versions of both services to college students for just $5 per month. It appears some of those services are just gifting themselves now. If giving your college-student a music or movie-streaming service subscription just seems too likely to encourage non-academic behaviors, they may still have easy access to it anyway. “Never before have students had this level of streaming entertainment options, at this unprecedented value, all in one package. By joining forces with Showtime and continuing our relationship with Hulu, Spotify Premium is now able to give students a complete world of music and video content, shows and film,” said Spotify’s chief premium officer Alex Norström in a statement. “Spotify Premium has just changed the content game for students. Bought individually and without any student discounts, the combined bill for these three services would be close to $29 per month. The new perk means that students now get access to 3 streaming services for less than $5 total. That’s in addition to Hulu’s limited commercials plan, which Spotify added to its student subscription tier a year ago. Spotify is adding another perk to its student subscription tier: Eligible college students who subscribe to the company’s $4.99 student tier can now access Showtime’s video streaming service for no additional costs.
